Mental health, in particular, mental illness is a very complex and diverse area. What we aim to do over the next 12 weeks, is take you and your community on a journey to highlight passion, human connection and community. Because, the fact of the matter is the current state of mental health across Australia is at epidemic levels.
What this means is we're going to take you through a process of engagement, enrollment, education and empowerment. We will engage your entire body through your conscious mind, your body and your soul. We want to enrol you into our community, our platform of support, knowledge and most importantly human connection. The next phase of the journey is education. We want to provide you with the most up-to-date research and data-driven facts around how you can best improve not only yours but your networks mental health. Lastly, we want to empower you to implement all that you learn over the next 12 weeks into your daily practice. For us to provide you with the information, tools and techniques necessary and not then empower you to put them into place would be us selfishly wasting your time.
So today I want to explain to you our ELE principal. However, before I do that it's important for me to give you a little detail into why I am so passionate about this space. Not only the Mental Health space, more specifically the space between each other. The distance that has been created between human connection on the back of a digitally connected society.
For as long as I can remember I've always been the person that radiated “I'm here for you, I'm here to listen, I'm here for advice and I'm here to sit next to you as you solve this problem for yourself.” However, in 2015 after the tragic loss of my best friend, the very person who first put the letters ELE together. I found myself lost, disconnected and searching for a platform of support. It was here I realised the devastating disconnect between human beings in today's society. It was here I distilled my passion. My passion to improve the current state of mental health across Australia and in turn the world.
Which brings me to our first defining letter, E - Standing for empathy, an unfortunate buzzword in today's literacy but one that is commonly misunderstood. You see, for a lot of us when we hear the word empathy or we are told to be more empathetic. We instantly think outwards, to be empathetic to others and their situation. When potentially the person who needs the most empathy and understanding, is you.
L - Standing for love and the ability to love others, to love struggle and importantly, to love yourself. Throughout my work over the past 10 years, one common thread that seems to show up time after time is the inability to love yourself. For all of your amazing attributes but also for your flaws.
E - Empowerment. For no one person can change your attitude or perspective without first empowering you to take the first step. You can't go giving someone a hammer and expecting them to build you a house. Similarly, we cannot give you all the tools and resources to change your state of mind without guiding and empowering you to make the changes yourself.
So please join us over the next 12 weeks as we work as a community and as a connected force to improve the current state of mental health across all of humanity.
