Shannon didn't rush back. After a traumatic birth that ended in an emergency c-section, she waited until 5 months postpartum, then picked the gentlest postnatal fitness program she could find. Six weeks later, she was stronger, still breastfeeding, and back in her jeans.

A hard start
Birth doesn't always go to plan. For Shannon, it went about as far from plan as it could.
"I had a very traumatic birth with a lot of complications that ended in emergency c-section," she says.
Recovering from major surgery while looking after a newborn takes time. Shannon gave herself that time, and didn't start any training until she was 5 months postpartum.
Why she chose a gentler postnatal fitness program
She could have gone straight to a harder program. She didn't.
"At 5 months postpartum I decided that the more gentle postpartum transform program was the right choice to ease my body back into exercise."
Transform's Postpartum program is built for that stage. It starts gently and builds from there, so you're not asking a recovering body to do too much too soon.
"Definitely the right call for me personally."
What surprised her
Shannon expected slow progress. What she got was strength coming back faster than she'd hoped, without losing her milk supply.
"I was surprised at how quickly I regained strength, lost weight and didn't lose my milk supply for my breastfed Bub."
For a lot of breastfeeding mums, that's the big worry, so it's worth saying plainly. Shannon kept feeding the whole way through.

What's next
Shannon isn't stopping. Her next step is moving up a level.
"I will now be moving onto level 1 of transform and can't wait to tone up even more, improve my fitness to what it once was and shed the remaining few kgs."
The fitness she had before isn't gone. She's getting it back, one stage at a time.
If you're where Shannon was
-
Get the all-clear first.
After a c-section or a complicated birth, check in with your GP before you start. A women's health physio is a good extra step.
-
Start gentler than you think you need to.
Shannon picked the easier option on purpose, and it's what made the rest possible.
-
Count more than the scales.
Strength, energy and clothes that fit again all count as progress.
Your turn
Shannon didn't need to push through. She needed something that met her where she was.
