Breastfeeding and Transform Postpartum

Breastfeeding and Transform Postpartum

We receive a lot of questions asking if you can complete TRANSFORM while breastfeeding and the answer is YES, of course you can!

Breastfeeding gives babies the best start to a healthy life, and it helps mum too. It is a personalised formula that contains all the right nutrients that babies needs to grow and develop.

As your bub grows your breastmilk will modify itself to what he or she needs and it acts as a supplemental set of nutrients such as fat, protein, calcium, and iron.

It’s also good for mum too!

Physically, breastfeeding can stimulate the uterus to contract and return to normal size, and lessens the chance of anaemia and postpartum bleeding.

Breastfeeding is a unique time for a woman's nutritional needs, it’s important to eat a range of high quality, nutrient dense foods in order to maintain health and energy levels in order to assist with milk production for your baby.

Remember, hydration is also key!

It is important to ensure that you are drinking enough water based on the climate and your activity levels.

Our team of fitness experts alongside our amazing dietitian Liz, we have created our TRANSFORM nutrition guide so that it is also suitable for breastfeeding mothers.

Our nutrition guide is based on including a wide variety of foods from the core food groups, vegetables, fruit, whole-grains and legumes, meat and alternatives, dairy/ non-dairy products, and healthy fats.

If you are currently breastfeeding, we highly recommend aligning your eating pattern with Phase 3 eating, with the addition of an extra piece of fruit and one extra carbohydrate serve - doing so will provide the additional micronutrients and energy to maintain milk supply.

Should you notice any changes or have concerns prior to using the guide, please contact your medical practitioner.

In addition, the National Health and Medical Research Council recommends that all pregnant and breastfeeding mothers take an iodine supplement of 150 micrograms per day.

This amount of iodine may be met with a general multivitamin supplement aimed at pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Please seek advice from a medical practitioner before taking a supplement if you have any pre-existing thyroid conditions.
