It's no secret that life isn't a walk in the park, there are going to be times where you find yourself struggling - that's where this idea of gratitude comes along.
There's a tonne of research out there that claims gratitude is the key to finding success & happiness, and that couldn't be more spot on! By paying attention to those things we are grateful for it allows us to sit in a positive mindset & feel more fulfilled at the end of the day!
Practising gratitude isn't an easy task if you've never done so before. That's why I'm bringing you my top 5 tips for how you can intentionally practise gratitude daily & hopefully make a habit of it!
HOW TO INTENTIONALLY PRACTISE GRATITUDE
1. Keep a gratitude journal
Keeping a gratitude journal is a great way to stay grounded & not get swept up in the craziness of the world. Taking 5 minutes each day to write down three things you are grateful for, helps to keep you level headed & in a positive frame of mind. It's also an amazing tool to recognise what you do have & learn to have a greater appreciation for it.
2. Practise mindfulness
Practising mindfulness is an amazing way to be present & be more intentional with your actions & words. Being mindful does require you to slow down your brain just a little & focus on the bigger picture. There are many ways to practise mindfulness, this could be through; meditating, feeling feelings, focusing on one task at a time, get outside, etc!
3. Challenge your critical inner voice
In those moments where you find yourself speaking badly of yourself, pull yourself up! It's important we recognise when we are thinking of ourselves in a negative light, & change our thinking process. Challenge that critical inner voice & say no I'm not any of those things. Take a few moments to sit & appreciate yourself for who you are, how you look & compliment yourself! Practise that self love!!
4. Find gratitude in your challenges
Through finding gratitude in your challenges, you'll realise things are never as bad as they seem! Everything happens the way it's suppose to & if you find yourself having a hard time, it's most likely because it's a lesson you needed to learn. Appreciate what you go through! Change your mindset from "I'm being punished" to "What lesson am I learning?" & I promise you, you'll see your whole world change. When you have this mindset everything you encounter becomes easier to work through & when you come out the other side you're grateful for it & you'll find yourself growing as a person!
5. Act grateful
You've all most likely heard of the "fake it till you make it" approach when it comes to personal development. That's what I want you to practise here! If you're struggling to be grateful, act like it until you truly believe & are genuinely grateful for the things you say you're grateful for!
Through intentionally practising gratitude it allows us to become more connected to ourselves, be in touch with our emotions & have a greater appreciation for what we have right then & now!
