How to Make 2019 Your Best Year Yet
Be honest: You’ve probably had your fair share of over-ambitious New Year’s Resolutions. Write a book? Travel the world? Become the next Kimye? Sure these looked promising, but once February came around, you probably realised you bit of a little more than you can chew. Well babes, it’s time to change. We’re not saying you shouldn’t have New Year’s Resolutions, but maybe it’s time to set the right one? We’ve got a bunch of New Year’s Resolution ideas that are small enough to be totally doable, but big enough to give you that FK YEAH feeling all year round.
Plan your workouts week by week
Instead of resolving to just “lose weight” #blah, be more specific. Planning your workouts week by week means you’re setting mini goals to smash! Choose a number of workouts per week that you want to do, then at the start of each week plan your fitness schedule. Goals are much easier to reach when they’re accomplished on a daily basis. But, as the weeks go by, you’ll see the scales start to decrease thanks to your newfound regular workout routine.

Walk 1,000 more steps a day
Walking 10,000 steps a day is said to be the key to reducing our risk of serious illnesses associated with inactivity, such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Although, less than one in five Australians reach 10,000 steps a day. We can’t force you to clock the big 10 a day (although, we really wish we could!), but we can suggest your New Year’s Resolution is to walk 1,000 more steps a day! Walking doesn’t just help increase your metabolism, it’s also great for heart health, brain health, joints and your overall well being!
Wake up your body for nine minutes
Raise your hand if you're the type to scroll through your phone first thing in the morning? Okay, it’s time to stop. We’re not saying to jump right out of bed and go for a run every morning, but you should start your day with a little movement. Simple stretches, bending and flexing your joints will do wonders for your body, and trust us - you’ll feel so, so much better! Try neck rolls, ankle rolls and hip circles too. Look for yoga stretches for some inspiration or, here’s a glimpse of our morning routine (P.S. we check the feed too).
Prep one meal or main dish a week
We’ve all got busy lives, so sometimes it’s seriously difficult to find the time to prep a week’s worth of meals. So, start small. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks (hey, snacks are important people!), choose one and focus on prepping you whole week’s worth. From grilled chicken and veg, dozens of hard boiled eggs, or even a smoothie, you’ll be well on your way to meal prepping the right way. Just be aware that whatever you choose, that it’s a meal in the right direction of what you’re working towards. Need some ideas? Go to sleep at the same time every night
Getting more shut eye has been proven to have such positive benefits to your health and weight loss. You’re an adult now, so it’s time to get your sh*t together. Even just an hour or two less sleep each night for a few consecutive nights can have effects on your brain that last longer than just a few days of disrupted sleep. The solution? Just like your skincare routine, creating an ideal bedtime routine is a must. Set a bedtime for yourself, turn off technology, drink some chamomile tea, whatever works for you. And make sure to wake up at the same time each day, too - this will help you get into a regular sleep pattern. Sleeping 8-9 hours per night will make you feel happier, more relaxed and above all healthier!
Jump on the meditation bandwagon
By now, everyone and your mother is espousing the virtues of meditation. But you still haven't taken the plunge. Hint hint: now is the time. Between Vinyasa yoga, barre classes, green smoothies and quinoa, it can be challenging figuring out what’s best for your health (FYI: all these are GREAT for you!) But, thousands of studies have shown that meditation has an enormous amount of positive benefits, and best yet, it only takes a few minutes out of your day. Mediation can increase your happiness, reduce anger, anxiety, depression and fatigue. In fact, a study in the journal Health Psychology shows a direct link between increased meditation and decreased levels of the stress hormone cortisol.
With that said, sitting still for 10 minutes can be fking hard - but like anything, meditation is a skill, and to perfect a skill you need practice. So be patient child, mindfulness is only a short session away.
