5 Things to Add on Your To-Do List For 2019
With each new year comes an opportunity to start fresh. And whether you like it or not, it’s nice to begin the new year with smart goals, ideas and resolutions that’ll last longer than say, February. With a big of research and dedication, we’ve got 5 foolproof self-betterment resolutions that are 100 percent achievable to add to your 2019 to-do list. Oh, and they’ll make you feel fking great on the inside, too.
Take a look around you. We spend more time than ever in front of screens - swiping for dates, scrolling through filtered photos and searching for the perfect meme to send to our besties. Unfortunately, all this screen time has negative implications. Instead of feeling popular, we feel like we’re missing out, and instead of staying in touch with people, we’re feeling more disconnected than ever. The solution? Go on a digital detox. Make a decision to put your phone down as much as possible - be it at a friends gathering, cinema, or even a weekend away. That invigorating herbal tea bath that you’ve been meaning to try will be much more enjoyable if you’re not worrying about the Instastory to match! Take time to stop and smell the roses - it’s the little moments that build gratitude — and that’s a very healthy thing.
Introduce adult bedtime
The great thing about being an adult is that you can have cake for breakfast and go to sleep whatever time you want. (Look at me now, mum!) The bad thing about adulting is that you can’t blame anyone but yourself when you start to suffer from sleep deprivation. Just in case you needed a reminder, sleep is considered the third pillar of health - so it’s er, important you get enough of it! When you’re sleep deprived, anything from your weight, to mood, to even your immune system suffer. Introducing an adult bedtime is one of the simplest ways to make sure you’re getting 7-9 hours of sleep a night. Sure, there will be night when you stay up past your bedtime (we’re only human!) - just don’t make a habit of it.
Be the difference
Be the change you want to see in the world. This can include a whole number of things. Get involved in a charity, volunteer for a shelter or a great cause, or organise a fundraiser in your own suburb! Help someone and follow through. Start taking yourself seriously, and use your voice for matters close to the heart. Your voice is a lot stronger (and louder) than you think and even you have the power to make a difference. Do some research online and find a charity or organisation that speaks to you - if you’re passionate about the cause, you’ll be more likely to follow through on your commitments, whether it be volunteering your time or fundraising. Find something you’re passionate about, something that drives you and you’ll amaze yourself with how good it’ll make you feel doing a selfless act.
Set a real goal
Goals are meant to be fking smashed. Whether it be a personal, financial, business or fitness related, when there’s a goal on the horizon, we operate differently and more strategically in order to achieve them. When you’ve set a goal, you know what you want, and you shape your behaviours and actions accordingly so you can achieve what you want. Make sure the goal (or goals) you set are realistic and achievable - otherwise you’re just setting yourself up to fail. Also make sure the goal/s you set depend only on you and not others. Make a plan, whether it be daily, weekly or monthly and make sure you follow it. If you start to feel the pressure, take a breath and remind yourself why you started in the first place. After all, you’re only human.
Learn a new skill
Every wanted to speak French? Perfect the art of calligraphy? Maybe even become a Photoshop Pro? Then now’s the time. Learning new things and continually challenging yourself to learn a new skill is the perfect way to put your best foot forward.
